ABN AMRO Corporate Investments and several other investors are investing in the third fund of Innovation Industries. This is the first climate related fund investment for ABN AMRO Corporate Investments in line with the recently announced climate strategy.

With the participation in Innovation Industries, ABN AMRO Corporate Investments will support investments in Dutch impactful deep tech companies with a focus on sustainability and scalability. Active since 2017, Innovation Industries is an independent venture capital fund that selects and supports technological developments that create both economic and societal value. “Deep tech and impact go well together. Deep tech innovations have the potential to address the fundamental challenges of our time; with positive impact on people’s lives, society and our planet,” says Chris Sonnenberg, partner at Innovation Industries. Innovation Industries has raised over €500 million since 2017 and its third fund will focus on: Resource efficiency & circularity, Energy transition & carbon reduction, Sustainable connectivity & infra, Health & wellbeing and Sustainable & healthy food.

This investment is in line with ABN AMRO’s recently announced climate strategy. Sustainability has been core to our strategy since 2018. We are committed to supporting the transition to a net zero economy by 2050 and our climate strategy is an important step in accelerating our journey. To fund the transition to a decarbonised economy, a total of up to €1 billion in early-stage capital will be deployed by 2030, which will be allocated over direct equity investment, fund investments and hybrid debt. “Through these fund investments, ABN AMRO is able to accelerate the mobilisation of early-stage capital amongst a large number of companies that are active in our strategic focus areas, but aren’t yet eligible for our credit facilities and other banking products. “These early-stage and fast growing businesses with deep-tech solutions for a sustainable and decarbonised economy are the future clients of our bank,” says Maarten Blomme, Head of ABN AMRO Corporate Investments.
