We are in an era of radical change. Our economic system needs to become much more sustainable, data-driven technologies can make our daily lives easier, and fast-growing platforms are shaking up traditional markets. As a personal bank in a digital era, we use our influence to make a positive contribution towards these developments. By innovating ourselves and supporting the innovations of others, we make a difference to people and society.

Wide-ranging innovation

Our services are not the same as they were ten years ago: from ABN AMRO Ventures to Techstars, from mobile banking to Tikkie and from Doorpakken to New10, Franx and nieuwvan.abnamro.nl. By innovating and digitising, we have been able to develop services and products that add value in the digital era. We are also working on innovation in other ways, by developing initiatives that:

  • contribute to a smarter, more sustainable living environment

  • help to safely issue, store and trade digital assets

  • support digital platforms and ecosystems with traditional and innovative financial services

Smarter, more sustainable

A future-proof society requires a different way of living and working – and especially in the urban environment. Our initiatives are there to enable our clients to increase their sustainability in terms of clean energy production, sustainable mobility and the circular economy, for example.

Digital assets

Market, regulatory and technological developments are accelerating the use of digital assets and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). This has positive effects on efficiency, liquidity and accessibility. Physical assets can be converted into digital assets. DLT and digital assets are changing the way we transfer and manage value, similar to the way that the internet has changed how we transfer and manage information. This could result in a far-reaching transformation within the financial system. We help our clients in this new world by developing new service models for issuing, storing and trading their digital assets.

Platforms and (financial) value added services

Clients have an increasing need for services in this digital world. For that reason, we are exploring the role ABN AMRO could play in the digital economy by developing digital platforms and offering (financial) value added services through third parties' digital ecosystems.

We innovate together

Collaboration is the key to successful innovation. We do this, for example with our corporate investment fund ABN AMRO Ventures, our Techstars partnership, the ‘Doorpakken’ platform and our own Challengers New10, Franx and Tikkie. So we can constantly learn from each other. That is also why we actively look for partnerships. If your organisation innovates within one of our three themes (innovative sustainability, digital assets and platformification) and you could use our strength as a bank, we would be interested in exploring how we can join forces. We will also tell you about DARE, our way of working for innovation and the results we have achieved.
