We help make society smarter and more sustainable
In order to help build a sustainable society, we are constantly looking for innovative solutions together with partners and clients. We invent, test and develop new business models that help our clients lead the sustainability transition. Besides energy and mobility in towns and cities, we also focus on the transition towards a circular economy.
How we select our initiatives
We want to work towards sustainability on many fronts, while maintaining a clear focus. In line with the bank's strategy, we focus on scalable initiatives in North-West Europe that have a measurable sustainable impact.
Challenges on the road to a sustainable society
The world of sustainability is rapidly changing. Take EU legislation and regulations, for example, which require ever stricter accountability. Our sustainability initiatives explore the opportunities offered by the legislation and regulations. The same applies to data availability, which is crucial in order to comply with legislation and regulations and in order to respond to opportunities in a smart way. Data can provide information about the sustainability measures that have the greatest impact. Besides making our own property portfolio sustainable, we are also working on smart solutions that will make our clients' properties energy efficient.
There are also a lot of factors to consider in the long term. As part of the transition to a sustainable society, we focus on long-term value creation for our clients, our employees and society as a whole, which takes a long time. Take the energy transition and the transition to a circular economy, for example. There are also markets that still need to develop and require a lot of initial funding, for solutions such as green hydrogen. We are exploring how our bank can develop additional services that accelerate the growth of these new markets.
Initiatives ABN AMRO is building on
Green Desk is one such initiative that we are putting onto the market. It is a sustainable platform that enables large companies to develop flexible housing policies. The Green Desk app allows employees to quickly search for external co-working spaces, existing shared corporate offices and workstations that are within easy reach by public transport. There are currently locations in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam and Leiden with friendly, quiet and sustainable environments with workstations that meet health and safety requirements and secure internet connections.
Innovating together
Collaboration is the key to successful innovation, as it means we can constantly learn from each other. That is why we actively look for partnerships. If your organisation innovates within one of our three themes (innovative sustainability, digital assets and platformification) and you could use our strength as a bank, please us. We would be interested in exploring how we can join forces.
