Future generation sounds the Euronext gong
With ABN AMRO back in the main Dutch stock market index, the AEX, the bank had the privilege of sounding the gong to open the Amsterdam Stock Exchange today, Wednesday 29 March. The bank’s recently established Future Generations Board (FGB) did the ceremonial honours.
Euronext assigns the traditional gong moment to a specific person or company on special occasions, and it is not every day that the AEX renews its listing. ABN AMRO dropped out of the AEX two years ago, after having been floated by the Dutch state.
ABN AMRO asked the FGB to perform the act and Jennifer Paffen sounded the gong on behalf of the new generation of bankers. Jennifer was pleased to have been chosen, but is even prouder of the fact that our purpose ‘Banking for better, for generations to come’ has taken on more meaning and that long-term thinking has become the norm. The bank’s Executive Board supports the FGB by putting them in the fifth seat at the table for decision-making as ‘the future generation’ (alongside clients, employees, investors and society in general).
The FGB consists of seven employees working in different parts of the bank. They carry out this role in addition to their regular work, collaborating closely with Chief Sustainability Officer, Solange Rouschop, who reports directly to CEO Robert Swaak. The board members hold office for a period of eighteen months. The age limit of 35 was chosen to promote age diversity at the top of the bank.
