Society is digitalising at a tremendous pace, and the same goes for online payments. However, not everyone is equally familiar with the use of digital tools. ABN AMRO wants to ensure that everyone can keep up with digital developments and continue to make independent financial decisions online. To make this possible, more than 200 Help with Banking advisers will be on hand every day to offer personal help with banking to anyone who needs it: from online banking to setting up mandates or help taking out insurance. This expansion more than doubles the number of advisers compared to last year.

Banking is becoming increasingly digitalised and also easier for many. However, there are also people who need help keeping up with online payments. “At ABN AMRO, we like to help our clients move forward and want all our clients to also be able to do their banking online themselves, but that isn’t an easy task for everyone. Our Help with Banking advisers provide support and familiarise clients with some dos and don’ts for banking online as effectively and securely as possible,” explains Gudy van der Wal, director of Financial Accessibility at ABN AMRO. “The number of Help with Banking advisers will be more than doubled compared to last year. With this expansion, we as a bank want to ensure that banking remains accessible and personal for all our clients.”

Mr De Jong (80) has been enjoying his retirement for 15 years and has learned a lot from the tips given to him by Esmeralda de Bont-Broeren, one of ABN AMRO’s Help with Banking advisers. “I found out quite a few things myself, also because I didn’t know that ABN AMRO offers all kinds of help with online banking. That changed when I recently spoke to the Help with Banking adviser. She made me aware of a few practical matters you can take care of yourself, like setting up a mandate, configuring payment limits or turning on the Savings Lock. These things make it a lot easier to do your banking yourself, so my advice to everyone is to speak to one of these advisers.”

A helping hand with online banking

By now 200 specially trained and certified Help with Banking advisers are ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it; you could basically say that we now have 200 ‘mobile branch offices’. These advisers are available for clients who have little online banking experience, are afraid to make mistakes or want to know more about online banking. The Help with Banking advisers also provide online banking courses, covering both internet and mobile banking. And they offer help setting up mandates and they can visit clients at home on request to help them with their daily banking. Until recently, these advisers were also known as Financial Care Coaches.

ABN AMRO Helps

Making a payment, requesting a debit card or submitting a change of address. We prefer to do our daily banking ourselves. However, one in six people in the Netherlands have difficulty doing so, perhaps because they have too little experience with online banking, or because they have trouble reading.
