The benefits of gender equality
What would the Netherlands have looked like had we been gender equal in 2010? The answer is illustrated in the simulation that SEO Economic Research performed for ABN AMRO in November 2021. SEO conducted quantitative research to define what a gender-equal Netherlands would have yielded over a ten-year period spanning from 2010 to 2020. In the simulation, the total number of hours that the Dutch work is equally redistributed between men and women. As a result, there is no longer any difference in the number of hours worked.
The report calculated what a gender-equal Netherlands means for the individual, for households and for the Netherlands as a whole. The result is billions of euros in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth per year, more financially independent people, and the same high standard of living. The simulation shows just how much a gender-unequal Netherlands misses out on each year and why gender equality cannot wait.
