To keep global warming below 1.5° Celsius, we as a society must reduce our carbon emissions now. ABN AMRO has launched a number of initiatives to tackle climate change – because we take our responsibility seriously and intend to do our part to ensure our planet is liveable both today and for generations to come.
Climate action
As a bank, we make the biggest impact by supporting our clients in their transition to sustainability. We do this by offering advice and developing sustainable products and services – to help clients make their homes and businesses sustainable, for example. And through sustainable investment solutions. At the same time, we’re also reducing and investing in areas like the energy transition.
Climate strategy
Our climate strategy is a plan of action presenting our principles, priorities and key levers. It sets out how we are aligning our portfolios with limiting global warming to a 1.5°C scenario and supporting the transition to a net zero economy by 2050. We will be providing regular updates on our targets and fine-tuning our plans as regulations, technologies and methodologies evolve in the coming years.

Making real estate more sustainable
Real estate accounts for more than 60 per cent of our loan portfolio. ABN AMRO finances over 10 per cent of the built environment in the Netherlands. Energy use in these homes and offices generates a large amount of carbon emissions. But by helping our clients make these buildings more sustainable, we can create a substantial impact together.
