S&P Global announces DJSI sustainability score

ABN AMRO has scored 68 out of a possible 100 points in S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment. This score puts ABN AMRO within 20 percent of the highest sector score*, and means the bank has not secured a place in the S&P Global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World and Europe. S&P Global announced the results on 8 December.
We use the results to assess where the bank can improve its performance and draw up a plan to carry out these improvements. ABN AMRO scored well in areas like Human Rights and Transparency & Reporting, and sees scope to improve its results in the Decarbonisation Strategy and Financial Inclusion categories, for instance. There was a 17-point difference between ABN AMRO and the sector leader. The bank’s score in 2022 was 74 points.
Corporate sustainability assessment
Each year, S&P Global assesses over 7,500 international companies on their economic, social and environmental policies. Governance factors are also taken into account. S&P Global then uses these scores to determine whether to include them in the DJSI and the Sustainability Yearbook, scheduled for publication in February 2024.
An important indicator
The assessment by S&P Global gives investors and other stakeholders a key tool for insight into ABN AMRO’s sustainability efforts. But it’s also an important indicator for the bank itself. ABN AMRO’s aim is to secure a score within 5 percent of the highest score in its sector.
*ABN AMRO’s relative position in the sector will be announced definitively in April 2024. This is because companies that are not eligible for inclusion in the DJSI – for example, because they are not listed – are still being assessed in the meanwhile.
