Innovative companies in the agribusiness or food chain can now enter the competition for the sixth edition of the Agribusiness Award, an initiative of ABN AMRO and its partner Boerenbusiness. The award is aimed at innovative products, services, supply chain collaborations and business processes that provide proven benefits for Dutch farmers or horticulturists. The innovations submitted must have already been launched, but must still be relatively new on the market.

Various forms of innovation are eligible to compete for the Agribusiness Award. This includes technological innovations that result in less waste or emissions, for example, or improved technical results or animal welfare, more soil life, a reduced labour requirement, or new products, such as green energy or natural insulation material. Or a marketing concept like the well-established ‘Beter Leven’, ‘Beter Voor’ and ‘On the way to PlanetProof’, which rewards the extra costs spent on producing sustainable food through supply chain collaboration and better prices. But supply chain innovations by individual supermarkets, food service companies and short supply chains can also be entered.

Expert jury

A jury headed by Aalt Dijkhuizen (former chair of Top Sector Agri & Food) will announce the winner of the Agribusiness Award during the Insights Live seminar at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam’s Ahoy convention centre on 4 February 2025[CR1] . This year, Pierre Berntsen (ABN AMRO) and Jan Omvlee (formerly Rijk Zwaan) will be joined on the jury by Laurens Sloot, Professor of Entrepreneurship in Retailing at the University of Groningen and founder of the EFMI Business School, who will help them assess concepts in the food chain.

Previous winners of the Agribusiness Award are BB Leap (2023), Andela Techniek & Innovatie (2022), Lely (2021), Limagrain Nederland (2020) and CowManager (2019).

Prize

Apart from the award itself, the winner of the Agribusiness Award will receive a cash prize of €10,000 and a media package worth €3,500 to be spent at Boerenbusiness. The winner can also draw on ABN AMRO’s knowledge, expertise and network in the field of innovation for extra support in their next step forward.

Pierre Berntsen, Director of Agricultural Businesses at ABN AMRO: “The Agribusiness Award is ABN AMRO’s way of shining a spotlight on the jewels in the crown of Dutch innovation, and to help the industry by showcasing inspirational examples of what is possible in the food & agri sector."
