ABN AMRO Ventures increases fund size to EUR 150 million
ABN AMRO has added further capital to ABN AMRO Ventures, the bank’s corporate venture capital fund. This new increase, from EUR 100 million to EUR 150 million, is the third addition to the fund’s capital since it was set up in October 2015.
This latest addition to the fund’s capital highlights ABN AMRO determination to further accelerate the pace of the bank’s digital transformation, as well as the growth opportunities that ABN AMRO Ventures sees in the international tech and fintech ecosystem.
Since the fund was first launched, ABN AMRO Ventures has invested in a total of fifteen innovative companies, with one successful exit already completed. Six new companies were added to the portfolio in 2020, with four follow-up investments to support further growth. The fund is now strongly positioned in the international ecosystem of investors, developers and companies in the tech and fintech communities.
ABN AMRO’s Chief Digital Officer Frank Verkerk, who also chairs the ABN AMRO Ventures investment committee, explains, “It’s wonderful to see that the fund can make a real contribution to the bank’s digital strategy, and to the development of the innovative companies in which we invest, many of which are just starting. We do this by matching the innovative capabilities of those techs and fintechs directly to ABN AMRO’s concrete client or banking processes. The investments in and partnerships with the companies in our portfolio also give us unique access to technology and talent. With this latest addition to the fund’s capital, we will be able to further pick up the bank’s pace of innovation.”
ABN AMRO Ventures is ABN AMRO’s corporate venture capital fund for investing in techs and fintechs. It seeks out innovative companies that specialise in digitising financial products, services and infrastructure.
