ABN AMRO switches over to electric lease cars
ABN AMRO will be the first Dutch bank to switch over entirely to electric lease cars in the coming years. As from July 2019, the bank will only issue electric lease cars to employees who need a car for work. ABN AMRO intends to make its entire lease car fleet carbon-neutral in the next five years.
ABN AMRO wants to set a good example when it comes to transport and to reduce unnecessary use of cars. Employees who need a car in order to perform their job can lease one from the bank. As from July 2019, only fully electric cars will be available for lease.
The bank is switching over to electric cars because it wants to make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions. In 2018, ABN AMRO employees drove a total of around 67 million kilometres in almost 2,000 lease cars. The majority of these cars (95%) had a combustion engine. Carbon emissions totalled 11.1 kilotonnes, the equivalent of the energy consumption of almost 1,400 households.1
Besides switching over to electric lease cars, ABN AMRO also wants to make it attractive for employees to trade in their own cars for smarter, cleaner alternatives such as public transport, the Amber car-sharing service or a sustainable private lease service.
