Ajax and ABN AMRO have again extended their partnership, which dates back more than 30 years. ABN AMRO has been the main sponsor of Ajax’s elite women’s team since 2015 and will remain so until at least 2025. The bank will also continue to be the Amsterdam football club’s social partner and act as sustainability advisor for the development of their ‘New Future’ project.
Menno Geelen, Commercial Director at Ajax, commented: “It’s great to have had ABN AMRO on board for so long. As the former shirt sponsor of Ajax’s elite men’s team, and later as the main sponsor of the youth teams, the bank has been the main sponsor of the club’s elite women’s team, Ajax Women, for many years now. We’re very happy that the partnership will be continued.” Daphne Koster, Manager of Ajax Women, added: “We’ve been able to further develop women’s football at Ajax, and the development of their talent in particular, with the help of ABN AMRO. We’re very thankful for that.”
Choy van der Hooft-Cheong, member of ABN AMRO’s Executive Board: “Equal opportunities for women and men is very important to us. We’re proud that our partnership as the main sponsor of Ajax Women is being continued and of our shared goal to take women’s football to a higher level. We’re equally proud that we’ve contributed to the goals of Ajax Foundation as the club’s social partner for so many years and that we are able to act as a sounding board for Ajax on the sustainability front. Our ambitions remain undiminished in all these areas. We’ve already achieved a great deal, but there is so much more to gain.”
More than 30 years
ABN AMRO became Ajax’s shirt sponsor in 1991. In the years that followed, the bank was the main sponsor of the football club’s youth teams and of De Toekomst sports complex. ABN AMRO became the main sponsor of Ajax Women in 2015, and in 2018 Ajax started a Talent Team which, like Ajax Women, trains at De Toekomst sports complex every day. The number of girls who train at De Toekomst has been growing since the Talent Academy was established in 2019.
Social partner
Besides sponsoring Ajax Women, ABN AMRO is also a partner in the area of sustainability, in particular as an advisor for the development of the ‘New Future’ project. ABN AMRO will also remain a social partner of Ajax and the Ajax Foundation. It does so in collaboration with ABN AMRO Foundation, which fights inequality of opportunity caused by social or financial circumstances among children and young people, for example by introducing them to sports, art, culture and entrepreneurship. Thanks to the personal attention they receive from ABN AMRO volunteers, children and young people are given the opportunity to discover and develop their talents and interests on various fronts. Both foundations challenge each other to jointly develop increasingly effective social programmes for children and young people who need a helping hand.
