Activities to help you find out where you excel
Every year, throughout the Netherlands ABN AMRO Foundation organises more than 300 activities, whether for a single class, for an entire school or even for several schools together. Our hope is always that every single activity – perhaps a visit to a local museum, a theatre or an exciting sport clinic – will be an experience that the kids never forget. Every one of our activities serves the same purpose: to offer kids for whom this is not self-evident a chance to try something new and to make an impact.
To maximise that impact, we work with schools that are affiliated with the Dutch . To give an idea of the activities that we organise, we have included a small selection from our programme below.
A day at the ABN AMRO Open
It starts with two tennis lessons at school, for a quick introduction to the game, followed by the real deal: a visit the ABN AMRO Open. In Rotterdam’s Ahoy arena, the kids take part in a variety of tennis-based games and experience the atmosphere of a world-class tennis tournament. If any of the kids discover a passion for the game, we work with the Dutch Youth Fund Sports & Culture to help them join a local tennis club.
Discover your own style through street art
STRAAT is a social partner of ABN AMRO and takes education very seriously. We regularly take groups of kids to this wonderfully inspiring museum of street art. Colleagues and kids experience how street art inspires you to share your emotions and helps you to find your own voice and discover your own style.
Remote reading buddies
Distance should not deprive anybody of human interaction or the chance to talk to someone. Every week, our colleagues go online with hundreds of kids (remotely, by laptop) and help them with their reading skills. They also take the opportunity to talk to the kids, and give them a big dose of personal attention and of course a compliment or two. This gives the kids self-confidence, a good feeling and reading pleasure.
A day at a musical
The AFAS Circus Theatre in Scheveningen is filled to the brim with enthusiastic and loudly singing children from all over the Netherlands. Such an afternoon of carefree enjoyment is something one wishes for every child. Through a special musical lesson programme, colleagues and music teachers prepare children for the visit. As part of this programme groups of kids have visited the musicals The Lion King, Anastasia, Aladdin, Rapunzel and FROZEN.
Exercising together connects
Being active in the outdoors and lots of smiling faces. During our sports days, children of different ages come together with colleagues to enjoy all kinds of sports, from football to running and from field hockey to an obstacle course. Not only good for your health, but also good for team spirit and self-confidence.
Experience history lessons in real life
While kids and colleagues walk through an open-air museum, history comes to life. The smell of bread on a wood fire, discovering old crafts and a gladiator fight. The history books come to life and thus appeal to the imagination even more.
Visiting football club AJAX
Throughout the year, we receive school classes at AJAX's De Toekomst training complex. Getting a clinic from a real AJAX trainer and discovering what is involved if you want to become a professional footballer is very educational. Think of discipline, cooperation or healthy food. In addition, once a year we welcome many schools at the same time to the Johan Cruijff ArenA football stadium, where kids do a big scavenger hunt with colleagues and learn everything about professions such as grass master or press officer.
Solutions for greater equality of opportunity
ABN AMRO Foundation and the Dutch Youth Education Fund are also working together to tackle inequality of opportunity by conducting joint research. . We do this to put inequality of opportunity in education on the agenda, but above all to give direction to possible solutions. Check out our latest research, conducted by SEO Economic Research, .
