ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund invests in battery energy storage company Colibri Energy
ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund (ABN AMRO SIF) is participating in a growth funding round for Colibri Energy, alongside Emerald Technology Ventures and the corporate venture fund of Nabtesco Corporation. This is the first investment for ABN AMRO SIF in battery energy storage.
With this investment, ABN AMRO SIF supports the development and growth of Colibri Energy, a provider of lithium-ion battery systems for vehicles in airport and industrial logistics. Electrification of vehicle fleets with smart and high-quality battery packs allows fleet owners and operators to cut back carbon emissions while reducing the total cost of ownership. The global aviation industry faces immense pressure to decarbonise, and ground logistics is among the lowest hanging fruit in this challenge. Colibri Energy is a frontrunner in providing integrated software monitoring, which enhances battery lifetime, enables remote maintenance and optimises fleet operations.
This investment is in line with ABN AMRO SIF’s ambition of accelerating the energy transition. “We believe that energy storage, in both fixed and mobile applications, is crucial for the sustainable energy shift,” says Thijs Nijland, investment manager at ABN AMRO SIF. Recognising the huge potential and wide range of applications for energy storage, the fund will be actively looking to expand its exposure in this segment.
