Starting this week, ABN AMRO will be sending its consumer clients a letter setting out details of the payment fees that will take effect on 1 January 2024. The letter explains that due to the developments set out below, the monthly fee for a Basic Payment Package will go up by € 0.30: from € 2.95 to € 3.25.

Payment transactions are being ever more digitalised, and clients want to do their banking faster and easier. In recent years, clients have had access to more and more new digital payment methods on top of the existing means of payment. Think of using your mobile phone to make payments or withdrawals, and paying via Tikkie or QR codes. ABN AMRO continually invests in expanding and maintaining a full range of payment methods which are easier, faster and safer for clients to use. The cost of these investments are substantial.

The bank also incurs substantial cost to keep the payment environment secure and to detect fraud. For example, anti money laundering procedures, screening clients, monitoring transactions 24/7, and investigating and reporting incidents relating to payments. Supervisory authorities are also placing increasingly higher demands on KYC procedures.

Lastly, we believe it is important to enable our less digitally-savvy clients to continue doing their day-to-day banking securely and easily, so we offer them the support of our financial coaches. Over the past few years, we have strongly expanded our team of coaches.
