Letter to informateur on fighting financial crime
ABN AMRO believes that in its upcoming term of office, the Dutch government should continue to give priority to the fight against financial crime, with Europe playing a major role through Europe-wide supervision. This is what the bank wrote in a letter to informateur Mariëtte Hamer, who is leading the negotiations on the formation of a new cabinet.
The negotiating parties aim to make agreements on policy and legislation for the coming years. One of the big social issues expected to be discussed is the fight against financial crime.
ABN AMRO wants to inform the new cabinet of a few issues involved in combating financial crime powerfully and effectively. Banks are a link in a larger chain that must work together in order to tackle financial crime. ABN AMRO takes its role as a gatekeeper of the financial system very seriously and is asking the informateur to reinforce collaboration and to increase the effectiveness of crime investigation. The bank also explicitly asks the government to continue to devote attention to the proportionality of measures. In addition, regulationsshould not prevent groups of people and sectors or companies from conducting their banking business.
