ABN AMRO Bank N.V. was acquired by a consortium of Fortis, RBS and Santander in October 2007. On 3 October 2008, the Dutch state announced that it had bought Fortis Bank Nederland, including its interests in ABN AMRO Bank N.V. As of 24 December 2008, the Dutch state replaced Fortis as a stakeholder in RFS Holdings. On 6 February 2010, the Dutch State acquired businesses were legally demerged from RFS Holdings BV and named ABN AMRO Bank N.V.. The old ABN AMRO Bank N.V. was renamed into Royal Bank of Scotland N.V.

The new ABN AMRO Bank N.V. includes Business Unit Netherlands, Private Clients and the International Diamond & Jewelry Group. By legal separation, within two months after February 6 this bank will be split of from the consortium bank and will become an independant bank, wholly owned by the Dutch Government
